Scientific Research Investigated the Effect of Drinking Slovak Magnesium Water. Here Are the Results

Biomedical research AquaMin, conducted by the company MEDIREX, a.s., in cooperation with the Internal Clinic of the Comenius University Medical Faculty and the University Hospital Bratislava, has shown that drinking Slovak magnesium mineral water is beneficial to our body and psyche. We are talking about Gemerka mineral water, whose optimal ratio of magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) contributes to the effective absorption of both minerals directly into the cells of the human body and to better coping with stressful situations.

Magnesium Directly into the Cell and for Better Sleep

“Drinking Gemerka did not cause an increase in serum magnesium concentrations, but compared to the control group, we did not observe urinary magnesium excretion and erythrocyte magnesium concentrations increased. This means that the intake of magnesium in the mineral water caused the body to become saturated with magnesium, and the magnesium went directly into the cells, i.e. exactly where it is supposed to act,” saidthe authors of the research, Prof. MUDr. Juraj Payer PhD., MPH, FRCP and Doc. MUDr. Peter Jackuliak, PhD., MPH.

Adequate magnesium intake is also a topic for mental health professionals. This was the focus of the second part of the study, which also produced positive findings. Mgr. Petra Brandoburová, PhD., from the research team of psychologists, summarizes the main findings as follows: Study participants consistently rated that regular magnesium supplementation positively affected the quality of their sleep. For those who were under stress, magnesium intake led to them being able to use their cognitive resources more efficiently. It is also interesting to note that the lower an individual’s magnesium level at the beginning of the study, the more depressive and anxiety symptoms they reported at the beginning of the study.”

The research was conducted on a selected sample of 80 people aged 30-65 years (both men and women), where 40 people drank 1.5 liters of Gemera and 40 people drank 1.5 liters of moderately carbonated tap water daily for 30 days and 40 people drank 1.5 liters of slightly carbonated tap water at the same time. The ethical aspect of the research was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region.

Magnesium and Calcium

But it’s not just the scientists in the cited research who talk about the positive impact of drinking Gemerka. Doc. Ing. Pavel Blažíček, who is the vice-president of the Slovak Society of Clinical Biochemistry, states unequivocally that the most effective way for our body to absorb the necessary magnesium values is just drinking mineral water (the body can absorb up to 60% of minerals through mineral water, but only 30% through dietary supplements).

The ratio with the second mineral, which in this case is calcium, is also very important. The advantage of Gemerka is the ideal ratio between magnesium and calcium 1 : 3, which helps to effectively utilize both essential elements. Drinking one 1.5 liter bottle of Gemerka will replenish 57% of magnesium and 65% of calcium.

Gemerka, which comes from a hundred-meter-deep borehole in the Slovak Karst, is more than twice as weak in sales. However, the ability of Gemerka to supply our bodies with the ideal ratio of minerals needed seems to be better based on scientific research.

Why Gemerka?

  • The magnesium taken in Gemerka can be effectively absorbed by the body and acts directly in the cells.
  • The effects and benefits of this mineral water are scientifically confirmed as the only mineral water in Slovakia.
  • Gemerka helps to better resist stress.
  • It also has a positive effect on the quality of sleep.
  • It helps to improve memory, concentration, attention and faster reactions.
  • Gemerka also helps to reduce depression and anxiety.
